Tony Gill was born in London, England and received his formal education at Oxford and the prestigious Royal West of England Academy of Art. Tony started his career in advertising, first working at British Vogue before moving to New York to become the art director for the Rolls Royce account at Ogilvy and Mather, painting all the while.
Following this successful career as an award-winning creative director, he and his wife, Sarah, and their son, Ollie set out on a seven-year sailing odyssey around the Pacific and Asia. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1998, Tony and his family settled in Newport, Rhode Island, where he once again resumed painting.
After nearly a decade and a half in the Northeast as a successful painter, Tony and his wife settled in a cottage on James Island mere miles from the Gallery, where they now live.
"As my primary focus is marine art, accuracy is paramount. As an artist, the mood and feeling is my first objective. I’m a Fauvist and a contemporary realist at the same time; color and realism being foremost in my work. The results enable the viewer to understand exactly what is represented -- but at the same time, put their own interpretation on what the painting means to them."
